  • GOING SIMPLE WEEK 2 :: Kitchens

    September 28, 2020 /

Congratulations on finishing up your bathrooms in week one! I’m so excited we made it through our first space together. Imagine walking in to your kitchen, the space is clean. You can find exactly what you need, and you know exactly where to put it when you’re done. This is possible. Because we use the kitchen in our homes every day, multiple times, this room can feel the most daunting, but it’s also one of the most rewarding. Remember to continue to focus on your family life, your personal goals and a dash of real life self care throughout the week as well! To join the private Facebook Group +…

Fermented food - daily dose for natural probiotic effects (see previous reel for more details!)
ACV - a shot before meals to slow the rate of stomach emptying and prevents large blood sugar spikes, lowering blood sugar levels.
Aloe Vera Gel - a shot once daily anti-inflammatory + aid in digestion and assist stomach related issues. (Note too much can have the opposite effect and cause diarrhea + dehydration so listen to your body!)
Vitamins - daily to help with SO many things. Magnesium specifically to help with PMDD symptoms.
Proper exercise - moving away from intense workouts like HITT and running as they’re actually horrible for my AS + hashi’s (no wonder I’d feel like I’d been in a car accident for legit days after doing those types of workouts). What works for me now: yoga, Pilates, walking, strength training with lighter weights.
Trying to not wear sunglasses when I head outside for some natural vitamin d.
Trying to get sleep.
Therapy and working through things instead of stuffing them down, emotional health imbalance is a major trigger for my hashi’s.
Learning trigger foods and avoiding them as often as possible, but also still living and having things occasionally because total elimination was awful.
The list could go on. It’s really a whole health overhaul, a lifestyle change, and a commitment to wanting to feel better at 45 than I do at 35.
I am not a pro, I’m just a woman doing my own research and advocating for myself and trying to find ways to lessen my flair ups and support my body as I navigate this fun world. There are SO many great resources out there. I strongly encourage you to do your own research too.
What changes have you made to help with your health?
Pie. But double it. And make it sheet pan. Got t Pie. But double it. And make it sheet pan.
Got to spend the dah in my mom’s kitchen. We’ve learned over the years how to co-cook. Let’s not mention when we attempted Christmas cookies in my kitchen a few years ago.😅
She sticks to her strengths (baking and cooking) and I stick to mine (cleaning and organizing). The food gets made and the kitchen stays cleannnnn, my happy place. 😁 After many years spent away from family because of distance and schedules, I appreciate so much the time we get to share in her kitchen now.
➡️ Swipe for Nana/my mom/Cheri’s Pecan Pie recipe, secret ingredient included. 🥃Bonus points because she uses a sheet pan to double the recipe for our large family (in case you wonder where I get my love for a sheet pan from). It’s the one thing I look forward to EVERY year. 🥧🤎
What do we call gift exchanges these days??? Anywh What do we call gift exchanges these days??? Anywho… You do NOT want to miss out on this perfect gift for your Midwest fam. The LIMITED EDITION @kwiktrip Holiday Sweater drops November 24th at 7 AM CST so set your alarm to grab one before they’re gone! Any guesses?!? ♥️🍩❄️
Get the dog. She will complete your family like yo Get the dog. She will complete your family like you could have never imagined. 💕
HOLY CRAP IT SMELLS SO GOOD IN HERE. What do you HOLY CRAP IT SMELLS SO GOOD IN HERE.
What do you think? Have you done a simmer pot before? Would you try this version?
I’ve always wanted to do a simmer pot but leaving an open flame on our gas stove for hours with littles in the house sounds like a recipe for absolute disaster.
Also I am NOT about to waste some perfectly good produce in the name of an afternoon of smells.
SO… I started keeping a bowl with lid in the fridge to catch all our apple and orange scraps. I pulled out my crockpot. Dumped those scraps in, added a few seasonings (today: cloves, cinnamon and rosemary), filled it up half way with water and left it on high unlidded. I’ll be checking the water level throughout the day and adding more as needed.
Holy gosh it smells so good.
Bonus, it’s natural, and much more kid friendly.
You can store it in the fridge, lidded, and use again for 1-3 days too!
