PARENTING :: Find Your One Good Mom Thing
In early motherhood I was so stumped how other mom’s were doing it. How they were happy and thriving. I looked at my children and was lost on how to actually spend time with them. I didn’t connect with my kids on anything because I was so overwhelmed with the thought of doing everything. As they got older, and I grew more comfortable as mom, I realized I was failing them because I was trying to do it all. And I was trying to do it all well. Realistically in life, we aren’t good at everything, right? So why would we think in motherhood that our skill set should be…
PARENTING :: Realistic Parenting Tips
It’s no joke that parenting today needs to come with a whole new handbook of rules, tips and tricks. Momming today is hard, with all the new gadgets, social dimensions and pressure to be the self sufficient, multi faceted, do it all mom. I’m five years in with three kids (plus one in the oven). And I’ve learned some sh*t. I’ve learned enough to know that I don’t know anything. So I did decide to scrounge up the few truths I have acquired to pass along to any other mom about to embark on this so called “journey toward motherhood.” Some of the links in the post are a part…
PARENTING :: hospitality
Oh boy… Hospitality. That one word is enough to make this hermit-hearted mama’s palms sweat. I prefer nights alone on the couch curled up any day over hosting others, or even being hosted for that matter. Mainly because hosting is so. much. work. But today’s devotional gave light to another angle of hospitality that I’m honestly admitting I’d never gave serious thought to. Why do we host? The point of inviting others into our home is to serve and to make them feel good. Of course! It’s so easy to get caught up in the preparation of it all, especially if you’re a recovering addict of perfection seeking. I hate to…
PARENTING :: humility+pride
Last night I fell asleep thinking about how very important to me it is to teach our girls to be humble. Above anything else, it’s really my number one quality to instill in them. I sat on it, thought about it, and prayed on it up until I fell asleep. And then this morning’s devotion was about, you guessed it, HUMILITY. Well that was about enough to send shivers down my spine. But for real talk, if I can teach my children one thing, to be humble in all they do, receive and give. Then I will consider this job done well. Any other humility seekers out there? 🙋🏻♀️ So…
PARENTING :: expectations
It’s hard for me to write today’s post because it’s a large self admission of failure. And who wants to openly admit they’ve failed?! And failed. And failed. But I feel so compelled to share because if I’m struggling through this, I know others are too. Today’s devotional in the #nomoreperfectmoms series hit me like a ton of bricks. Because yesterday was a day. My toddler has entered the “do it myself” phase. Which, while super exciting and such a huge milestone for her, is literal torture for me. One of my biggest struggles in motherhood is letting go of my ideal, and allowing my children to lead the way…
READ :: It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way
To preface: I’m not going through a crisis in my current season of life. We have no struggles with infidelity. I’m not fighting any major battles health wise, or the like. I share none of the major storylines of this book. I’m somewhere in that in between phase, stuck in the middle of the high highs, and the low lows. And for me, this is one of the scarier spots to be. Because I fear the unknown of what’s next. Will it be an amazing opportunity for our family? Or will a heart wrenching catastrophe be on the horizon. The inability to control the unknown is a major fear for…
