  • Slow and Simple Tips To Bring Peace This Holiday Season

    December 16, 2020 /

Back again with more holiday drama? Not here at House of Eilers. Well, not intentional drama anyway! 😉 The holiday bustle seems to bring enough of that on its own! Here are a few ways I give myself a much needed break during the holiday season as a busy mom of four little ones. But still keep up our most important holiday traditions! 1. Ditch Perfection Beautiful + Pinterest Perfect Christmas, is that you, knocking at our front door? Sorry pal, you aren’t welcome here! B.K. (before kids), I found so much joy in creating photo worthy holiday moments. But alas, with all things children, grace prevails. Besides… I’ll take…

    November 14, 2019 /

In early motherhood I was so stumped how other mom’s were doing it. How they were happy and thriving. I looked at my children and was lost on how to actually spend time with them. I didn’t connect with my kids on anything because I was so overwhelmed with the thought of doing everything. As they got older, and I grew more comfortable as mom, I realized I was failing them because I was trying to do it all. And I was trying to do it all well. Realistically in life, we aren’t good at everything, right? So why would we think in motherhood that our skill set should be…

Pie. But double it. And make it sheet pan. Got t Pie. But double it. And make it sheet pan.
Got to spend the dah in my mom’s kitchen. We’ve learned over the years how to co-cook. Let’s not mention when we attempted Christmas cookies in my kitchen a few years ago.😅
She sticks to her strengths (baking and cooking) and I stick to mine (cleaning and organizing). The food gets made and the kitchen stays cleannnnn, my happy place. 😁 After many years spent away from family because of distance and schedules, I appreciate so much the time we get to share in her kitchen now.
➡️ Swipe for Nana/my mom/Cheri’s Pecan Pie recipe, secret ingredient included. 🥃Bonus points because she uses a sheet pan to double the recipe for our large family (in case you wonder where I get my love for a sheet pan from). It’s the one thing I look forward to EVERY year. 🥧🤎
What do we call gift exchanges these days??? Anywh What do we call gift exchanges these days??? Anywho… You do NOT want to miss out on this perfect gift for your Midwest fam. The LIMITED EDITION @kwiktrip Holiday Sweater drops November 24th at 7 AM CST so set your alarm to grab one before they’re gone! Any guesses?!? ♥️🍩❄️
Get the dog. She will complete your family like yo Get the dog. She will complete your family like you could have never imagined. 💕
HOLY CRAP IT SMELLS SO GOOD IN HERE. What do you HOLY CRAP IT SMELLS SO GOOD IN HERE.
What do you think? Have you done a simmer pot before? Would you try this version?
I’ve always wanted to do a simmer pot but leaving an open flame on our gas stove for hours with littles in the house sounds like a recipe for absolute disaster.
Also I am NOT about to waste some perfectly good produce in the name of an afternoon of smells.
SO… I started keeping a bowl with lid in the fridge to catch all our apple and orange scraps. I pulled out my crockpot. Dumped those scraps in, added a few seasonings (today: cloves, cinnamon and rosemary), filled it up half way with water and left it on high unlidded. I’ll be checking the water level throughout the day and adding more as needed.
Holy gosh it smells so good.
Bonus, it’s natural, and much more kid friendly.
You can store it in the fridge, lidded, and use again for 1-3 days too!
I was terrified. Thinking about life beyond the ba I was terrified. Thinking about life beyond the baby years. Wondering if I’d miss them. Spoiler alert: I miss them terribly. Cried over a google photo memory that popped up this morning actually. 😭
HOWEVER, even with all the self care I prioritized during those baby years, there’s a certain amount of depletion you simply cannot avoid. It’s a physical baggage that hangs off of you, quite literally, through the baby years.
And now that I am on the other side, I finally realize how heavy that physical baggage really was.
Because I feel lighter, SO much lighter.
I’m still living largely for my kids every single day.
But I also have this immense amount of freedom in my womanhood now, where I am finding the ability and time to rediscover ME. Not the old me I thought would be here waiting. No, definitely not her. But a newer version. An older, much wiser version. I’m just getting to know her, but I’m loving so much about her already.
One of our most recent discoveries… she wants to take her yoga journey to the next step. As of this fall, I’ve started the process of becoming a yoga teacher. I’ve actually been teaching for a few months now. And I’m working to earn my certification as well.
This is something I dreamed about as I raised those babies. Something I never thought would be within my reach. But yet, here we are.
If you’re in those early years of motherhood, and you’re feeling so fully immersed in your children, to the point where your dreams are taking a back seat. Know that it is okay. It will not be like this forever. You will get to meet a new version of yourself soon enough, and she will be so happy to see you arrive, ready to guide you into yet another new season of motherhood and womanhood.
Bag is stocked with my yoga essentials: blocks for assists and support, notebook and pen for all the journaling and thoughts, water and smoothie for nourishment and hydration, and my fave grippy yoga mat and carrying strap from @mandukayoga, code AMYHOLIDAY saves 15% at Manduka.com. 🤎
Here’s why. ⬇️ Sauerkraut is packed with pr Here’s why. ⬇️
Sauerkraut is packed with probiotics that can improve your overall gut health. This combination makes sauerkraut an excellent food to aid with digestion.
One study found that a single batch of sauerkraut contains up to 28 different bacterial strains. That’s many more than you’ll find in a standard probiotic supplement. Because they’re in food form, these probiotics may be more likely to reach your intestines intact.
It is recommended to eat about a tablespoon or 10 grams per day. You may gradually increase the intake of sauerkraut up to six tablespoons or 60 grams per day if you are comfortable.
Bonus… It is so much cheaper than probiotics you find in store.
WHY COLD THOUGH? Cooking sauerkraut will kill off the probiotic bacteria that we want to consume.
UPDATE: Make sure the one you buy is actually fermented and ALSO NOT cooked before packaging! I legit did not thoroughly google the brand I was using and for months ate it blindly thinking it contained active bacteria. It was fermented, but was also cooked during packaging, killing off all active bacteria strains. 😩 So make sure to always do your research first! 💕
It may make me “weird” but my doctor actually recommended it, and it’s been working super well for my gut health journey. So for now, I will continue to eat the kraut. 😜
