PARENTING :: hospitality
Oh boy… Hospitality. That one word is enough to make this hermit-hearted mama’s palms sweat.
I prefer nights alone on the couch curled up any day over hosting others, or even being hosted for that matter. Mainly because hosting is so. much. work.
But today’s devotional gave light to another angle of hospitality that I’m honestly admitting I’d never gave serious thought to.

Why do we host?
The point of inviting others into our home is to serve and to make them feel good. Of course!
It’s so easy to get caught up in the preparation of it all, especially if you’re a recovering addict of perfection seeking. I hate to admit it, but I am sooooo that mom that goes on a war path while preparing for guests.
I start all cool, calm and collected with my to do list. But a few tasks in and I have tunnel vision. I’m like that viral video that went around a few years ago. I mean. That’s ME in that video!
I don’t want to admit it, but in the name of being vulnerable, it’s so true. My poor husband and kids. Eric always says “girl’s watch out, mom’s on a rampage!” And it’s so true.
And with company coming next weekend to stay, this is the perfect time for me to have a reality check. Of course I will still prep for their stay, they need clean sheets to sleep on! But I’m going to totally try to focus on the fun they’ll have here, they reason they’re coming. And that reason is not to inspect the dust on the window sill.
Well, I hope not, at least!
